the last time we were on the moon was December 11, 1972

The Apollo program wrapped up a little more than a decade before I was born, around a time when most human beings understood that, collectively, they were smart and resourceful enough to send other human beings on round trip flights to a celestial body. This was an important thing to realize about human beings.

Next trip will be 2019.

a brief rant concerning audiophiles because the general moaning around the internet about Radiohead’s In Rainbows being encoded at 160 kbps annoys me

Here’s a general rule of thumb: If you happen to read the words “…I’m a bit of an audiophile…” anywhere on the internet, disregard whatever else is written around those words. The surrounding words will most likely be some sort of delusional nonsense about bit rates, signal to noise ratio, standing waves, and “sense of depth”. You will probably even see the word “tinny”, maybe even more than once, and it will be used with absolute sincerity. The “high end” will sound “tinny”, and maybe even “distorted”.

“There! Can’t you hear that? Right there in the hi-hat!”

No. I can’t. Neither can you. You’re an idiot. This is not wine tasting.

I of course write all of this while listening to music on a set of $99 noise reduction sound isolating in-ear headphones with a gold plated stereo mini-jack connector. The music coming from my ear-buds is both “crisp” and “full”. It sounds “nice”.

The Bar-Kays - I Can’t Turn You Lose

This is from the 1972 Wattstax festival. Interesting fact: If you listen intently enough to the guitar riff, which is relentless, you will achieve some sort of zen like musical revelation.

I don’t have anything against Jimmy Fallon. I love Jimmy Fallon. He’s my dude.

I didn’t mean to hurt Jimmy Fallon.

I just want to clear the air with the Jimmy Fallon thing once again. I didn’t mean to hurt him…

On playing characters named “Tracy”:

It doesn’t bother me, that’s my name. People have been calling me Tracy my whole life. That’s my name.

Indeed. I love you, Tracy Morgan.
